Local environmental issue:
Global Warming in Melbourne, Mitch
What is global warming you ask? Global warming is an increase in temperature to the earth's atmosphere caused by greenhouse gasses. Now you might be wondering, how does a greenhouse gas contribute to global warming? Well, a greenhouse gas contributes to global warming by absorbing infrared radiation and carbon dioxide.

The sea levels on the coast of Victoria are expected to rise by 5 to 15cm by 2030 and 26 to 59cm by 2070. This change will escalate the chances and severity of extreme weather events such as, floods and other events such as storm surges in Melbourne. Melbourne's population is expected to increase from 4.6 million to nearly 8 million with the population set to top 10 million by 2051. Increased globalisation and congestion are going to really test Melbourne's resilience in the years to come.

Climate change is the main thing that impacts the carbon cycle, it basically causes warming. It mainly falls under the more natural side of the cycle.

At the moment Victoria are experiencing these current climate change / global warming impacts: A temperature increase of just over 1 degrees, a decrease in average rainfall and a significant increase in fires during spring. As you can see, most of the co2 emissions come from energy, such as, the mining of coal, then there's transport, obviously includes cars, busses, trucks and all them kind of things, then after that there's agriculture and then there's lesser ones such as waste.

As you can see we have done a relatively good job as we've cut down our co2 emissions 24.8% since 2005 after having it peak in 2010, so we've done a pretty good recovery job in that sense, even though we have a lot of work to do, it shows that we can do it.

My action plan
1) I can ride my bike to school, which would lead to less co2 in the atmosphere.

2) If I see some rubbish on the ground, I could pick it up and put it in the bin, this would help lessen pollution.

3) I could encourage my parents to look into solar panels as it would help contribute to less co2 emissions.

4) I could eat more vegetables as it decreases the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and also takes less energy to make.

5) Maybe I could encourage my parents to buy an electric car so there’s less co2 in the air.
